The Indonesia Smart College Card (KIP-K) program is structured to broaden access to higher education for students hailing from low-income families by subsidizing tuition fees and living expenses. Nonetheless, the mere availability of scholarship funds does not inherently guarantee the development of adequate personal financial management skills; consequently, some students continue to encounter financial pressures and challenges in maintaining the sustainability of their funds until subsequent disbursement periods. This community service initiative aims to enhance the financial independence of dormitory students who receive KIP-K funding through faith-based financial literacy training and mentorship programs. The methodology employed is Service Learning, encompassing preparation, implementation, and evaluation, and involving lecturers, student assistants, dormitory managers, and KIP-K recipients. The primary activities include interactive workshops on fundamental concepts of personal financial management, principles of Islamic finance—including halal income, the prohibition of riba, and the avoidance of israf and tabdzir—as well as practical exercises in preparing monthly budgets. The outcomes demonstrate improvements in participants’ comprehension of the distinction between needs and wants, the significance of allocating funds to distinct expenditure categories, and the relevance of Islamic values in financial decision-making. Participants also began to develop more realistic budget plans and to integrate savings and worship/social funds as essential components of their scholarship management. These findings suggest that faith-based financial literacy, when applied within the specific context of the dormitory environment, has the potential to foster more prudent, ethical, and blessings-oriented (barakah) financial behavior.
